This film is part of a series of six films created for Wells Cathedral School’s Music Department by the Integrity Films team. In this film we follow the story of Wilamena, a dedicated percussionist in year 12 at Wells Cathedral School. Transitioning from a specialist cellist to a passionate percussionist, Wilamena shares her musical journey and the vibrant experiences she has encountered during her six years at the school.
The percussion department at Wells Cathedral School offers a rich tapestry of musical exploration, from classical pieces on marimba to jazz on vibraphone. With ample time dedicated to music practice integrated into the school day, Wilamena immerses herself in a diverse range of percussion instruments and genres, honing her skills and embracing new challenges.
Cedars Hall, the school’s state-of-the-art facility, serves as the hub for percussion activities, providing a conducive environment for practice and performance. Led by esteemed professionals like Jayne Obradovic and Matt Hardy, Wilamena finds inspiration in her teachers’ expertise and the collaborative spirit of her peers.
Wilamena’s journey at Wells Cathedral School is marked by enriching experiences, from playing alongside renowned percussionist Evelyn Glennie to participating in music exchanges and concerts both locally and internationally. These opportunities, coupled with the supportive community and lush surroundings of Wells, foster a nurturing environment for musical growth and exploration.
Looking ahead, Wilamena aspires to pursue music therapy and attend a music conservatoire, driven by her passion for music and the transformative power it holds.
