Every year, Wells Cathedral School hosts “Event on the Lawn,” a pupil-initiated mini music festival aimed at supporting charitable projects in Sierra Leone. Organised entirely by students, the event raises funds for a music academy in Sierra Leone, contributing to its development and sustainability. The festival involves meticulous planning, including security, ticket sales, band arrangements, and food variety.
Despite challenges like rain, the community effort remains high, with extensive promotion and involvement from primary schools and local businesses. The event features diverse musical performances, including pop, jazz, and indie rock, alongside activities like face painting and arts and crafts.
The event not only benefits Sierra Leone but also provides invaluable learning experiences for the students, fostering skills like time management and confidence. The unity and enjoyment shared by the entire school community make the event truly special, leaving a lasting impact on participants.
